High School Art

FOUNDATIONS OF ART     9-12    1 sem.; ½ cr.

 

This class will prepare students to take all the other art classes.  Students will begin with basic drawing techniques and then get an introduction to painting and three-dimensional work.  Students will become familiar with the elements and principles of design, as well as basic art terms, as they work through their assignments.  A passing grade in this class is the prerequisite for all art classes.  

Counts towards Visual, Performing or Applied Arts requirement.

PREREQUISITE:  None

MIXED MEDIA I 9-12 1 sem.; ½ cr.

 

This class will expand on the lessons learned in Foundations of Art.  Mediums covered may include pencil, charcoal, water colors, paper mache, paper making, fibers, pastel, collage, and ink. 

Counts towards Visual, Performing or Applied Arts requirement.

PREREQUISITE:  Foundations of Art

MIXED MEDIA II 10-12  1 sem.; ½ cr.

 

This class will explore a variety of mediums used to create art.  Mediums covered may include colored pencil, pencil, acrylics, pastels, fibers, plaster, and oil pastels.

Counts towards Visual, Performing or Applied Arts requirement.

PREREQUISITE:  Foundations of Art, Mixed Media I

DRAWING AND PAINTING 9-12 1 sem.; ½ cr.

 

Students will focus on the areas of drawing and painting to create art.  Mediums used may include pencil, graphite, oil pastels, pastels, acrylics, charcoal, and water based oil pain. 

Counts towards Visual, Performing or Applied Arts requirement.

PREREQUISITE:  Foundations of Art

DRAWING AND PAINTING II 9-12 1 sem.;  ½ cr.

 

This class will expand on the lessons learned in Drawing and Painting. Students will focus on the areas of drawing and painting to create art.  Mediums used may include pencil, graphite, oil pastels, pastels, acrylics, charcoal, watercolor, and water based oil paint.

Counts towards Visual, Performing or Applied Arts requirement.

PREREQUISITE:  Foundations of Art, Drawing and Painting

POTTERY I 9-12 1 sem.; ½ cr.

 

This course is designed to help students learn the techniques needed to do creative ceramics.  Students will design and sketch individual works and experiment with different types of finishes.  An emphasis is placed on hand built pottery and introduction to the wheel.  

Counts towards Visual, Performing or Applied Arts requirement.

PREREQUISITE:  Foundations of Art

POTTERY II / III 10-12  1 sem.; ½ cr.

 

Students will build on the knowledge gained in earlier pottery classes.  They will increase the number of projects thrown on the wheel and work to become more proficient in different styles of creating pottery.

Counts towards Visual, Performing or Applied Arts requirement.

PREREQUISITE:  Foundations of Art, Potter I/II
