Reminder: The 3rd quarter marking period ends today! Get those assignments turned in!
Flu season: It seems that the flu is making its rounds once more. Wash your hands often!
Track: Track sign up is going on now! Make sure you have a physical on file with the school. A physical must be on file before you can participate! Practices will be Tuesday-Wednesday, March 26-27 after school until 4:45. After spring break, practices will resume April 8 until 5:15. Some practices will be held indoors and some out, so bring clothing for both!
FFA: Please get in your Discovery Degree applications today, March 19th to Mrs. Carl. If you need help or have questions on how to fill this out, please see Mrs. Carl.
We still need at least two more 7th / 8th graders to sign up for Spring Skills contests on April 12th. Please see Mrs. Carl for more information.
There will be an FFA meeting during 7th hour in the CHOIR ROOM, Tuesday, March 19th, from
2:30-2:55pm. We will be going over Spring Skills Contests.
Don’t forget to bring something to write with.Please check in with your 7th hour teacher first
before heading down to the meeting.
Science Olympiad: Mrs. Haywood will be here during advisory today, March 19 to meet with Science Olympiad students. They will meet in the upper computer lab. C216.
8th Grade Lifting Program:
Tuesday nights: March 19, 26
In the High School Weight Room (enter through the CERC)
Dress to lift and bring an adult lifting partner.

Today, March 19 will be our 6th grade band concert. This performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Hastings Performing Arts Center. More information will be sent home with students.
April 13 will be the Middle School spring Solo and Ensemble for 7th and 8th grade bands. It will take place at NorthPointe Christian HS. If your student would like to participate, forms and payments are due in class by next Tuesday, March 5.
Parent Teacher Conferences & Book Fair: Spring Parent Teacher Conferences will be held at HMS March 21 and March 25 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. You child’s report card will be available to pick up at that time. Our Spring Book Fair will be open during conferences on March 21st and March 25th. Your kids will be able to preview the book fair during the day on Thursday March 21st with their English Class or during lunch. On Monday March 25th the fair will be open during lunch. The online homepage has a book flyer for a preview of the fair, information on an ewallet option of payment for you child so you don't have to give them cash, and also the entire fair online so you can shop there instead. The online fair is available March 16th through March 29th.
Early College:8th graders and Parent's of 8th graders, the high school will be holding informational meetings regarding early college and dual enrollment on March 21st and 25th. The meetings will be held in the High School Library and start at 6:00 p.m. March 21st's meeting will focus on early college information and the meeting on the 25th will cover information about dual enrollment. As 9th graders you will not enroll in either program, however you will need to complete many academic requirements prior to enrolling and that will mean planning ahead. Please join us for these informational meetings so that you can have your questions answered and your academic path to success planned out. Early College brochure
Dance: The dance has been rescheduled for March 22! This will be held at the CERC from 6 to 8 p.m. $3.00 at the door will get you a DJ and dancing, karaoke, open pool and open gym! (Bring your own balls for the gym) Concession items, like pizza and pop will be sold. Hope to see you there!
Father/Daughter Dance: the Father/Daughter Dance will be March 23. This event will be held from 6:30-8:00pm at the CERC. Tickets are available in the Middle School office.
HMS WRESTLING BANQUET INFORMATION!
March 27th @ 6 PM in the HMS Commons
Dinner is being provided so no one has to hassle picking up anything
or cooking anything. Please bring table service for your family.
Donations of $20/family to go to the cost of food is appreciated, but
Wrestlers should dress up! If any wrestler still has a uniform,
headgear or anything else borrowed, please plan to bring that to the
banquet. A reminder note will go home with wrestlers today (3/19/19).
YearBooks are now on sale! Information will go home with students soon. Yearbooks are $20.00 and ordering will be available until March 28, 2019. You can order online at www.inter-state.com/yearbook and enter code: 30448Z or return your order and envelope with cash, check or money order payable to Hastings Middle School to the middle school office.

April 9th - PSAT - Paper and Pencil Test
April 10, 11, 12 - PSAT Make up
April 15 & 16 - M-Step Social Studies (60 min. total)
April 16, 17, 18 - M-Step Science Field Test (90 min. total) **Many will not need the 18th.

Students will need earbuds or headphones for the M-Step testing. Please send these from home for your child. Thanks.
Cops vs. Teachers: Please plan to attend the charity basketball game of Cops vs. Teachers on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Hastings High School. Doors open at 5pm with tip off at 6pm. $5.00 entrance fee. All proceeds will be donated to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in honor of Star Elementary student, Nolan Lucas. Nolan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 6 years old. Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone needed to allow sugar to enter cells to produce energy. Nolan, and many like him, need your help to raise funds to find a cure. Please join us for this great cause.
Hat /gloves: If you are in need of a hat or gloves/mittens please see the office.
Family Fare Receipts: If each student brought in receipts from Family Fare totalling $250, we would be at our goal of $150,000 in Family Fare receipts! If we turn in $150,000 in Family Fare receipts HMS will get a check for $1000! We want your Family Fare Receipts!
