This was our last full week of school for the year!  There is no school on Monday due to Memorial Day.  The following week is our last week!  This year has flown!  I am so proud of all the learning that has happened at Central this year!  We will be sharing your individual students' progress with report cards that will come home on the last day of school.  Assessment reports for NWEA and Acadience (DIBELS) will be included with your child's report cards.

Information for next year:  Class placements for next year will be communicated in a letter in August.  At this point, we are unsure if we will have a Young Kindergarten classroom at Central.  This determination will be made during the summer based upon kindergarten enrollment.  We do have some staff changing grade levels for next year.   Here is the plan for next year at this point:

Kindergarten:  Ms. Hoke and Mrs. Waller

1st Grade:  Mrs. Reser and Mrs. Wenger

2nd Grade:  Mrs. Buxton and Mrs. Slocum

            3rd Grade:  Mrs. Pratt

4th Grade:  Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Schultz

5th Grade:  Mr. Andrews and Mrs. Smith

Kindergarten Registration:  Kindergarten registration is underway.  Forms can be found on the district website or picked up at our office or the district office (inside the Middle School).

Forms must be completed and returned to the Administration Office (232 W. Grand Street) with the following documents:

    • Certified copy of the child's birth certificate
    • Updated immunization records
    • Proof of residency. (e.g., a drivers license, or an official piece of mail or documentation showing guardians name and residential address)

The office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

To enroll in school, children must be five years old before September 1, 2019. However, if a child will be five years old before December 1, 2019, they can attend school with a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Waivers are available anywhere packets are distributed.

BY STATE LAW before attending school, students must have up to date immunizations (or a waiver) as well as completed vision and hearing testing.

Summer Reading Kick-Off-  There is still time to sign-up for our Summer Reading program!  We are having a Family Picnic Kick-Off next Wednesday, May 29 from 6-7.  We will be passing out free books and activities, the B.Bus will be here for a visit, Hastings Public Library will be sharing about the fun activities happening there, and we will enjoy a hot dog roast!  Please join us!!

We have had a great week here at Central!  Students are getting back into the routine after our week off!  A reminder that Friday, April 19 school is closed for Good Friday.  The district is still waiting on information from the state legislature regarding snow day forgiveness for the State of Emergency days.  As soon as we know more, we will communicate information regarding the official last day of school.

M-STEP -  Our 5th grade students begin M-STEP testing next week.  They will be testing April 16, 18, 23, and 25.  Third and Fourth grade testing begins in May.  Please avoid scheduling appointments on these days.  Help your child do their best by helping them to get a good night sleep, healthy breakfast, and encourage them "show what they know!"

Girl Scouts-  Attention all 2nd and 3rd grade girls-  we have a Girl Scout Brownie Troop starting!  Come learn what it means to be a Girl Scout, make new friends, do fun activities, and earn your first Girl Scout badge!  The troop meets on Mondays at the Hastings Public Library from 6-7 pm.  Bring your parent or guardian to join the fun!  Stop by the office to pick up a flyer for more information!  See you there!

PBIS-  We had a fun PBIS assembly today to review our Safe, Respectful, Responsible expecatations.  We had some fun with the teachers' skit introducing interesting ettiquette differences from their classroom's country by attending a dinner party at Mrs. Geukes house.  Did you know:  You should bring your own toilet paper in China?  You should always bring a gift if you are going to someone's house in Fiji?  In England, you should always pass the salt and pepper together?  It was a fun way to learn more about our special countries!
