It was a fun week at Central!  We had a great time watching the Beauty and the Beast dress rehearsal on Wednesday.  The students were an excellent audience!

Spring Pictures: On Thursday, we will have spring pictures.  These pictures are optional and pictures will only be taken of students that pre-order pictures.  Order forms went home with students this week.

Appropriate Dress:  A reminder that students should not be wearing any attire with weapons or inappropriate words or sayings on them.  Please help reinforce this with your student.

Parent-Teacher Conferences:Tuesday, March 19 and Thursday, March 21 from 4:00-8:00.  Please contact your child's teacher if you are not sure when your conference is scheduled for.  Conferences are a very important opportunity to communicate regarding your child's progress.

Penny War:  The classrooms are participating in a Penny War to raise money for the Cops vs. Teachers Basketball Game.   The proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in honor of Nolan Lucas, a Hastings El. student (and Mrs. Lucas's son!)  Students can bring pennies to add to their class points and nickels, pennies, and dimes to subtract from other classes.  The Penny Drive begins on Monday and wraps up on Friday.

    Have a great weekend!

Well winter has certainly hit us these last few weeks!  I miss seeing all of our students at school!  We have had some things rescheduled due to weather so please take note on of some updated dates.

Donuts with Dads-  Mr. Case is hosting Donuts with Dads on Thursday, Feb. 14 from 7:00-7:50 am.  Students and father figures are invited for a light breakfast and to enjoy some time together.  Mr. Case has some information to share about Watch DOGS as well.  You do not have to stay the whole time, but can come and go as your schedule allows.

We will be celebrating Career and College Week at Central Elementary next week! In addition to identifying what a career is, we will focus on how to use our strengths and interests to point us in the direction of careers we might like to do one day! To add some more fun to the week we will have Dress-up days!

Monday Feb 11 - Dress like you are headed to an interview!

Tuesday Feb 12 - College Gear - Wear your favorite University or college gear!

Wednesday - Feb 13 - Saxons are Successful! Wear Blue & Yellow or your favorite Saxon gear!

Thursday - Feb 14 - We LOVE our futures! Wear Red, Pink or white!

Friday - Feb 15 - What do you want to be when you grow up? Dress up to show everyone!

On Feb. 28, author Ginjer L. Clarke will be visiting Central Elementary. She is an author from Virginia who writes non-fiction books about animals. An order form to purchase some of her books went home last week. All books are $4, and Ms. Clarke will autograph the books for students during her visit. Those order forms are due Monday, Feb. 11 to allow enough time for the order to arrive in time for her visit. If you need another order form, contact your child's teacher or the office.

Due to the number of cancelled school days, we are going to start making up days this month. February 18, 2019 was originally scheduled as a day off in honor of President's Day. Instead, we will have school on February 18, 2019. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

It has been a cold and snowy week here at Central Elementary!  Please make sure that you are sending your child to school in hats, gloves, boots, snowpants, and coat.  The students wait outside for a few minutes before the bell rings, so make sure they are dressed warmly!  If the air tempature or wind chill is low, we will make determinations regarding indoor recess or lining up inside.

Calling all father figures and their students-  Please join us for a fun time in the morning before school. We will be having some food and drinks together. There will be some information for you to take home about the Watch D.O.G.S. program. We will also have a couple of fun activities for you to do with your students. You may come and go as you please within the time frame. Please RSVP by January 25 with your name and how many total will be attending (will help with food purchases). If you forget to RSVP please still join us. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you.

We have author Ginjer Clark visiting Central Elementary on Feb. 28.  Your child should have received an order form to purchase books by Ms. Clark.  If you would like to order any books, please return the slip by Thursday, Feb. 8.  Ms. Clark will be signing books on the day of her visit!

STEM Night-  Hastings Area School's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineer, and Math) Night is coming on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6:30 pm here at Central.  Families are invited to do fun STEM activities and learn more about how to support children in science.  We hope to see you there!
