    A Note From The Teacher

Many of our projects stay here until the unit is done. I use students' first projects,or exercises, to show students how they have grown and gotten better. I also love displaying students work. Their work spends time up in the halls and in showcases around the building. I know you are excited to see your child’s work, please be patient.

I am extremely proud of what the art students have completed the past month. They have worked really hard and it shows in their work. I can see them building confidence in their abilities. Building self-confidence through problem solving is a great component of art education!

    6th Grade Art

    Grading System
25 points per week responsibility points = 5 points a day
For bringing supplies, cleaning up workspace, staying on task, participating in question of the day

    Class exercise 10 points
These are mini projects that are often done within one –two class periods. Many times they are a practice of a technique or something newly learned. Often they will be done before we use it in a larger project. Sometimes I will use these after a large project that took a lot of time to give students a break before starting the next big project. Sketches of an idea, gray scale, hand with patterning, 1point perspective name and drawing exercises are all examples of class exercise. Students get the points for completing the exercise.

    Large Projects 50 Points
Projects that take several class periods to produce are worth 30 points. When these go home they will have a score sheet with them. On this sheet it will have a list of criteria that the students need to meet. They will grade themselves and I will also have a grade on the paper from me.

    Written work/ Reports 50 points
Students will create a least one written report on an art related topic. We will have class time to work on these.

    Vocabulary Tests 20 points

Students will take two vocabulary tests on design elements and principals of design. These vocabulary words will be gone over and used repeatedly in class to describe and discuss art work.

    Homework
Students will be given enough class time to complete every assignment. Many of the projects we will be working on will need to be done here at school do to supplies. If a student falls behind they may be asked to take something home to catch up.
