Closings and Delays
To determine if it's necessary to cancel or delay school in snowy/icy weather, school district personnel drive on roads early in the morning, evaluating conditions throughout the district. The superintendent reviews information from the National Weather Service and local news stations in addition to consulting with the Barry County Road Commission.
Wind chill, snow accumulation and icy roads are all factors in determining whether to cancel school. Student safety is the top criterion used in such decisions. We are also in close contact with school officials from our neighboring districts and will work to make decisions by 5:45 a.m.
Evening Activities
All K-8 and Community Education after-school and evening student activities are canceled if school is closed due to inclement weather, unless otherwise authorized by the superintendent. The status of high school athletic contests and other activities will be announced through social media and via the athletic department by noon of the snow day.
Two-Hour Delays
Buses will pick up students two hours later than normal, and school will begin two hours later than normal.
CERC & Daycare
When school is closed, Community Child Care and CERC will remain open unless there is a loss of power or heat, or in the event of an emergency. We will, however, delay the opening of daycare to 8 a.m. If Community Child Care closes, it will be announced by local news media and through email.
Notification
As your student’s caretaker, we understand that the final decision on whether to attend school during inclement weather is yours. If you decide to keep your student home, please notify the school. We would like to thank you in advance for your help and flexibility as we navigate another Michigan winter together.
