Dez Mathis accomplished a huge milestone this weekend by earning her 100th career win, becoming the first female wrestler in Hastings history to reach that mark!
Along with Dez, the girls wrestling team won their sixth tournament in a row when they hosted 15 other schools at home. The Saxons scored 167.5 points. Thornapple-Kellogg was a distant second place with 127 points.
Champions in their weight classes included Nani Farell, Abby Fraser and Ashlyn Bailey. Placing second were Riley Furrow, Morgan Casselman, Dez Mathis, Sara Baker, London Hammond, Autumn Mayak and Alexia Owen.

An update on our schedule for tomorrow (January 23): The CERC will remain closed with daycare maintaining normal hours. We will make a determination on athletic events during the course of the day Friday.

Some of our student athletes made the trip to our local McDonald's to collect money raised during October 21's McDonald's High School Sports Digital Fundraising Day.
The Hastings McDonald's donated 20 percent of digital sales from that day to our athletic department. It turned out to be a great success for our Hastings Saxons.
We received a check in the amount of $543.12! Thanks to all who participated in this event. And thank you McDonald's for your support of Saxon athletics.

The Saxon wrestling team is now three-time champs at Mt. Pleasant’s Coca-Cola Classic tournament. The team had a great day over the weekend, going 5-0 against Montabella, Clare, Mt. Pleasant, Shepherd, and Charlotte.
Hunter Sutfin, Reyd Zoerman, Liam Renner, Jace Acker, Austin Friddle, and Ethan Hetrick all went undefeated 5-0 on the day.

The I-8 Conference volleyball awards were announced last night at the banquet, and we are proud to celebrate our outstanding athletes!

The Hastings Saxon cross country teams wrapped up their regular season with outstanding performances at the Barry County Championships, held yesterday at Lakewood High School.
The girls’ team earned an impressive second-place finish, led by county champion Caroline. She was followed by Emerson, who placed 7th and earned first team all-county honors, and Chloe, who finished 14th to secure a spot on the second team all-county.
The boys’ team finished fourth overall, highlighted by Caleb’s 13th-place finish, earning him second team all-county recognition.
Several runners capped off their seasons with new personal records, including Emerson, Chloe, Alyssa, Maddie, Brynn, Sucel, Caleb, Josh, and Dakota.
Season-best times were also recorded by Alexa and Lakaya.

Saxon cross country had a strong showing at the Portage Invitational over the weekend, one of the largest meets in the state. Caroline led the way with an impressive 4th-place finish, clocking in at 18:30. Ryan Harris and Josh Roberts also recorded personal bests. Overall, it was a great performance by the team!

Varsity competitors for the girls were Caroline, Emerson, Chloe, Maddie, Ayssa, Lily and Alexa. Caroline finished first overall with a time of 19:17.
On the boys’ side, the team was led by Tanner, Caleb, Parker, Alex, Eli, Carter, and Spencer.
A special shoutout goes to Billy, who stood out as the only Saxon to record a season best time at the meet; congratulations, Billy!

After a last-minute win last week, the Saxons fall in another close one tonight. It was a great effort by our Saxons with awesome fan support!

Congratulations to Caroline, who beat her own school record to set a new benchmark. She finished the Under the Lights Invite at South Christian in 18:25.9. We have a feeling this won’t be the last time we see her do it over the next two seasons!
